I visit family in Alaska a couple times of year, and the last few years my wintertime visit has coincided with Fur Rondy—which is a winter festival that was started in the 1930s in Anchorage, to coincide with the time that the miners and trappers came to town with their winter’s yield. You can read more about it at www.furrondy.net.
It involves the World Champion Dog Weight Pulling competition, giant ice sculptures, dog sled rides, a carnival, and a fur auction. I always have fun capturing not only images of unusual event, but also the interesting furs that people wear to the event. Below are a few of the images from my visit.

My Family leading the way:)

How many are surprised that they don’t usually use Huskies to pull the sleds?

One or two people attend each pair of dogs in the line before the start… I think it’s because the dogs get a bit high strung the closer they get to the start.
